Hi again, welcome to Eurovision Forever. In this post, I will talk about the road to Belgrade, behind the scenes of how the stage was created, a review of the songs from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, the final betting odds on who will qualify from semi 1 and… EUROVISION COUNTDOWN!

————————————————————————————-

THE ROAD TO BELGRADE 2008

Marija Serifovic wins Beovizija 2007 with the ballad “Molitva”

Marija Serifovic qualifies to the final of The Eurovision Song Contest 2008

Marija Serifovic WINS The Eurovision Song Contest for Serbia with the song “Molitva” recieving 268 points

Serbia confirms they will host Eurovision in 2008 in their capital, Belgrade.

The venue will be The Belgrade Arena.

Creative details are announced: The theme is “The Confluence of Sound”

The hosts are announced

All 43 songs are picked

First rehearsals start

First dress rehearsal

—————————————————————————-

BEHIND THE SCENES – Creating the stage

First technicians built up the stage on the arena floor and light riggers worked around the clock to get hundreds of lighting devices up in the ceiling.

Then they were work shifts as the stage was being built.

The stage was completed, and Belgrade was decorated and the press centre was created.

—————————————————————————-

A REVIEW OF THE SWEDEN, NORWAY, FINLAND AND DENMARK SONGS

Sweden – Charlotte Perrelli – Hero

What a brill song! It is powerful and has great tune and melody to it. I think it has potential to do extremely well. 5/5

Norway – Maria Haukess Strong – Hold on Be Strong

It’s a great, classy song and will no doubt qualify to the final on Tuesday 20th May. For sure. I give this 4/5.

Denmark – Simon Mathew - All Night Long

Cool, happy, catchy tune from Denmark this year. Bares a resemblance to British singer Mika. Good song, but not a winner. 3 and a half/5

Finland – Terasbetoni – Missa Miehet Ratsastaa

I do not like this song AT ALL. I hate heavy metal (with an exception of Lordi). It is so boring and will struggle so much for points. 0/5

————————————————————————————-

FINAL BETTING ODDS ON WHO WILL QUALIFY FROM SEMI 1

Russia

Armenia

Greece

Ireland

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Romania

Norway

Azerbaijan

Finland

Israel

————————————————————————–

EUROVISION COUNTDOWN

Semi Final 1: 1 day to go

Semi Final 2: 3 days to go

Final: 5 days

Interesting Fact: The current betting odds show that the Top 5 could be: Russia, Serbia, Armenia, Ukraine and Greece. Surprise, surprise – all Eastern countries!

—————————————————————————-

NEXT TIME…

To celebrate Semi Final 1 of Eurovision 2008, I give my opinion on all the songs in semi 1 and whether they will qualify.

Star Focus: We look at Armenian representative Sirusho and her life.

Eurovision 2008: Dark horses – Which countries which are expected to do badly, could actually do well? I look at the countries which could surprise everyone.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT…

THE BELGRADE ARENA

In today’s “Behind The Scenes”, I will give you all the lowdown of this years venue, The Belgrade Arena or The Beogradska Arena as pronounced in Serbia.

The Belgrade Arena is one of the biggest arenas in the whole of Europe, with a total space that covers 48,000 square metres and a total capicity of up to 23,000 seats. It cost 70 euros to build. Construction first started for the venue in 1992 and finished in 1998, due to war in Belgrade. It is also the fifth biggest arena in Europe, and has more seats than the 2007 venue, The Hartwell Arena, in Finland’s capital, Helsinki.

Recently a new Multimedia section was added, for press to use during Eurovision 2008.

A REVIEW OF THE BIG 4 SONGS AND THE HOST NATION’S SONG

United Kingdom – Andy Abraham – Even If

This song is so great and really funky! I think this song is the best of all The Big 4 countries and has potential to do really well- even win! I give this 5/5.

France - Sebastien Tellier - Divine

Another great song, this time from France. Divine is a great tune which can get anyone dancing or humming to very easily! Good song, good placing, winner? 4 and a half/5

Germany – No Angels – Dissapear

This is an alright song I suppose. It’s a bit boring and the live vocals are bad. Carola Fortenbacher was so much better. Not a winner. 2 and a half/5

Spain – Rodolfo Chikilicuatre – Baila El Chiki-Chiki

It’s the worst of all The Big 4 countries. I think its quite appaling that this was selected above Coral. I hate the singer, the tune, lyrics, EVERYTHING. Nil points – 0/5

AND HOST COUNTRY OF COURSE

Serbia – Jelena Tomasevic – Oro

Lovely song that WILL do well. It’s lovely and harmonious and has help from neighbours like Croatia, Hungary, FYR Macedonia and Montenegro of course. 4 and a half/5

My Final Review Scoreboard:

1. UK

2. France

3. Serbia

4. Germany

5. Spain – I HATE IT 100000000000000000%

————————————————————————————-

4 DAYS UNTIL SEMI FINAL 2

Interesting Fact: There are 2 former Eurovision Song Contest participants taking part again in this years contest in Belgrade. Charlotte Perrelli (nee Nillson) who represented Sweden and won in 1999 in Jerusalem is back with the powerful song “Hero”. Dima Bilan, is also back for

Please accept my sincere apoligies for no new posts for ages! But I’m gonna keep you entertained with all things Eurovision in the lead up to the contest on the Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of next week.

All of the acts are now in the capital of Serbia, Belgrade rehearsing. I can promise you- its gonna be a great show.

There is one thing I haven’t got down to yet – ranking the songs. So I’m going to do that today.

Here is my rankings:

QUALIFIERS FROM SEMI FINAL 1

Israel

Belgium

Slovenia

Norway

Poland

Ireland

Andorra

Armenia

Russia

Bosnia and Herzegovina

—————————————————————————-

QUALIFIERS FROM SEMI FINAL 2

Iceland

Sweden

Turkey

Ukraine

Switzerland

Czech Republic

Latvia

Bulgaria

Malta

Portugal

————————————————————————————-

TOP 10 IN THE FINAL

1. Switzerland 282

2. Sweden 277

3. Ukraine 255

4. Iceland 253

5. Norway 249

6. Greece 201

7. Serbia 199

8. Armenia 197

9. Poland 194

10. Russia 193

BOTTOM 5

Germany

UK

Ireland

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Spain

—————————————————————————-

So there you have it, my prediction. I think the two main contenders to win are Switzerland and Sweden.

I have a feeling that if Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ireland qualify, it will be hard to do well in the final.

Dark horses: France, Turkey and Czech Republic. Watch out for them!

————————————————————————————-

I will be giving you all you need before and during Eurovision. Including:

Video interviews

Eurovision Countdown in every post (including this one)

Photo specials – (Next time we have Belgrade and Ani Lorak)

EUROVISION COUNTDOWN

4 DAYS TO GO

Interesting Fact: 75 cents, who is represting Croatia along with Klaljevi Ulice, is the oldest person to step on the Eurovision stage. 75 cents is 75! The youngest person in the contest is 16, Olta Boka from Albania.

EUROCAFE/EUROCLUB:

Eurofans visiting Serbia between 9th and 27th of May will be able to enjoy this year`s Eurocafé, situated in the heart of Belgrade, in the building known as “Beogradjanka”, on the 5th floor of one of the most famous venues in Belgrade – the club “Plato”. Esctoday.com had opportunity to be there and to find out more about OGAE Serbia`s plans for the Eurocafe and this year’s Euroclub.

Members of OGAE Serbia were the first who had the opportunity to see how this year’s Eurocafe looks like, since they are the ones responsible for the project. “Plato” , the next Eurocafe, is quite spacious and includes two main areas, an indoor as well as an outdoor one , which looks like a big terrace with a fountain in the center and a beautiful view on the one of the hottest touristic places in Belgrade, the Saint Sava temple.

The Eurocafe will not offer just drinks and refeshments but also meals at more than reasonable prices. The venue offers wireless Internet access, as well as other facilities such as a fitness centre.

OGAE Serbia members will be responsible for the daily and evening programme. According to the OGAE organising comittee, there are a lot of new things to be introduced in this year’s Eurocafe, as well in the Euroclub, also a responsibility of the club.

As for the Euroclub, it will be situated in the Sava Centre, in the same building as the Press Centre and not far from The Belgrade Arena. It opens on May 11th, and remains open for guests until 25th May. The programme in the Euroclub begins every night at 21.00 or 22.00 depending on the the schedule of the Delegation parties. OGAE Serbia promises Eurofans a good show and an unforgetable Euroclub and Eurocafe.

Three help-desks, intended to inform all the fans and others more about the happenings in Belgrade during the Eurovision Song Contest and to give answers to various questions, will be set up by OGAE Serbia. The help-desks will be situated in the Eurocafe, Euroclub and near the Press Centre. There will be one more – at Belgrade Airport, but this one will be open occasionally, depending on the times of arrival of fans who have found accomodation through OGAE Serbia.

The first Eurovision 2008 participant to visit the Eurocafe was Greek Kalamoira who was warmly welcomed by members of OGAE Serbia.

Eurovision PR Manager Duska Vucinic-Lucic also said the “postcards” will be very unique and different from those of previous Eurovisions. They will focus more on Serbian people than the city of Belgrade, Serbia and Serbian life and culture.

I will see you soon with all the latest ESC 2008 news!

Hi everyone.

A couple of days ago another big Eurovision 2008 favourite was added to the list of stars attending/performing at the UK Eurovision Preview Party at the Scala Nightclub in London on 25th April. This star is Sirusho, who is representing Armenia at the first semi final and perhaps the final in Belgrade this May.

She also read out the votes for Armenia last year. Here is a video clip for you:

SOME MORE NEWS:

The representative for the United Kingdom in the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest, in Belgrade, Serbia, Andy Abraham, will release his Eurovision entry the week of the competiton. The song will be available for digital download one week before.

The digital release will be on 12th May and the physical release will be on 19th May, just days before the Grand Final in Belgrade. The Enhanced Single will contain a remix of Even If, by Manhatten Cliq and also the Music Video of the song. This is followed by his album, which will be released two days after the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, Moday the 26th May. Andy is hoping this album will be as successful as his previous releases.

Andy is hoping to keep up his record in Reality TV shows, in Eurovision, after ending second in X-Factor and winning Eurovision: Your Decision, the UK selection allowing him to represent his nation in the Biggest Reality TV event, in the world.

Andy will participate in the Fnal on the 24th May, with his song ‘Even If’ for the United Kingdom.

————————————————————————————-

The Flemish minister of culture, Bert Anciaux, has conferred a state support of €25,000 to Ishtar, the Belgian representatives in Belgrade. The financial support should serve to pay off all additional costs made in Belgrade, besides the normal costs which will be paid by the Flemish broadcaster VRT.

Ishtar applied for the donation themselves. They presented a list of expected extra costs to be made in preparation for Belgrade and during their stay in Belgrade to Bert Anciaux. The Flemish minister approved to give the Belgian band €25,000, considerably less than the €60,000 he allocated to Kate Ryan for her promo tour in 2006.

The main difference is that Ishtar didn’t plan any promo activities abroad, except for the one in The Netherlands planned on May 4th. Ishtar will perform O Julissi in Dutch tv show ‘Life and Cooking’ and will meet the Dutch and Swedish representatives, Hind and Charlotte Perelli.

Ishtar will release their second album next week, which carries the name of their Eurovision entry ‘O Julissi’. This week, the Belgian band rehearsed their new choreography for Belgrade for the first time, created by choreographer Ricardo Overman.

————————————————————————————-

Well it’s goodbye for me for now. In the next blog I will give you my opinion on the finishing positions of all the songs when the final finishes late on Saturday 24th May, plus loads of other news.

From Matt x

I’ve got some news for you! I’ve just applied for a job at a really good Eurovision website, which is www.EuroVisionary.com. I don’t know whether I’ll get picked. I’ll probaly not, but it would be a dream come true to work on a sucessful website. It is a great job, I’d love to get it!!!! Words can’t describe how I would feel if I got the job. It would be the best thing ever.

This means, if I get the job, I will not be able to update www.eurovisionforever.wordpress.com. So I need to find a willing bachelor who will be able to replace me as owner of Eurovision Forever. I’m recruiting, so please send me an email at matthewnoonan@talktalk.net. The email must include your full name, country, a quick summary of yourself, why you want to be owner and if you have any previous experiance. The deadline for this is Saturday 5th April 2008.

Bye for now! I will inform you if I have any luck. I leave you with a Eurovision classic- The 1986 winner for Belgium, 13 year old Sandra Kim with J’aime la vie.

Hello Europe! In this blog I’m going to reveal to you the plans the Serbian broadcaster RTS have for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Yesterday the artistic team presented the event theme, postcard design and details about the show.

Production Designer Goran Joksimović explained the theme for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, Confluence of Sound, and the sub-logo of the contest. A graphic presentation featuring Marija’s winning song Molitva.

Sven Stojanović, a Serbian living in Sweden, has been appointed as multi-camera director of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. He has been involved with the contest several times, and directed the 2005 contest in Kyiv as well. “20 camera’s will be used for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, eight of them equipped with motion-control,” he explained. “It is very important to me to have an identity for each of the songs,” Stojanović said, emphasizing the importance of a specific identity for each songs in a participants field of 43.

Per Sundin, who was heavily involved with the organization of the 2003 contest in Riga, also joined the team in Belgrade as light designer. He explained the choice for the German company Procon as one of the key technical partners, adding more details to the creative concept of the show; “The first Semi-Final will be created around a city theme, the second Semi-Final around the theme of water, and the Final will be a mix of those.”

Doesn’t it all sound good? I’m very excited about this year’s contest- it’s going to one of the best. I’m sure the EBU, Eurovision and RTS will do a great job in Belgrade. But the question is will it be better than Finland’s great attempt in Helsinki last year?

That’s all I have to say.

In the next few blogs I promise videos of all the entries in this year’s contest. It will be an A -Z. I will have 5 videos in each blog. Here is the place to be for next week or two!

Bye Europe,

Matt x
